Americans chanting ‘Mahamrityunjaya Mantra’ to fight against COVID-19? Here’s the truth behind the video

A video is being shared on social media in which foreigners can be seen chanting ‘Mahamrityunjaya Mantra’. It is being claimed that the video is from America after it was hit by the Coronavirus pandemic.

“अमेरिका में कोरोना से बचने के लिए वहां के नागरिक महामृत्युंजय मंत्र का जाप करते हुए” the caption read.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the video and found the claim to be false.

We extracted the keyframes of the video using the InVid tool. The Reverse Image Search of the keyframes of the video led us to the same video which was uploaded on Vimeo on July 6, 2018.

The same video was also uploaded by a Facebook user on January 30, 2017. As per the user, the video is from Germany.

NewsMobile couldn’t independently verify the origin of the video. However, it can be safely said that it has no connection with the COVID-19 and is not from 2020.
