Date:

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus the world over has crossed the four million mark. More than 2.79 lakh people have died because of the virus that continues to wreak havoc across the globe.

As per Johns Hopkins University, there are a total of 40,24,009 cases of Covid-19 in the world. As many as 2,79,311 people have died due to Covid-19.

With 13.09 lakh confirmed cases and 78,795 deaths, United States is the worst affected country.

United Kingdom, too, has witnessed a sudden surge the deaths with the toll now standing at 31,662. Italy (30,395 deaths), Spain (26,478 deaths) and France (26,313 deaths) are the other countries that have the highest death toll globally.

As far as number of confirmed cases is concerned, Spain (2.23 lakh cases), Italy (2.18 lakh cases) and United Kingdom (2.16 lakh cases) have the highest number of cases following the U.S.

The only silver lining here is that 13,75,624 people across the globe have also recovered from the Covid-19 infection. More than 2.12 lakh people have recovered in United States—the highest in the world. Germany has seen more than 1.43 lakh people recover.

There are global concerns tha the actual number of confirmed Covid-19 cases could be much higher than is being reported now given the fact that the testing rate in many countries is low.

Even as daily death tolls have shown some decline, expert are fearing a second wave of infections as a fallout of easing lockdown restrictions.
