Karnataka is slowly approaching the 1,000 mark and as the number of Covid-19 cases increase in the state. In the south, Tamil Nadu continues to be the worst affected state with over 8,700 cases.
Here’s a look at that’s making news down South:
1. The decision of the Karnataka government to usher in agricultural reforms during this period has received a setback as Governor Vajubhai Vala returned the ordinance back to the state cabinet for reconsideration. The new law clipped the powers of the APMCs and permitted corporate companies to directly procure goods from the farmers.

2. With 26 new cases being reported, Karnataka presently has 951 COVID-19 related cases. The death toll stands at 32.
3. In a statement, the Kempe Gowda International Airport has said that it is ready to resume flight operations after taking all due precautions prescribed by DGCA and social distancing will be strictly practiced.
4. The infamous Koyambedu market in Chennai has not only led to an increase in the number of cases in the state and is responsible for over half of the total cases in Chennai, but now the Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that 20 cases in the state and four districts have reported cases from this single market.
5. On Wednesday, traders and retailers protested in Chennai seeking the reopening of this Koyambedu market. The city police had earlier shut down the market.
6. Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac said that a decision on a new state budget will be taken at the end of this month after consulting the Union government. The state has appointed an expert committee to review the state of finance in the state. The arrival of migrants from other nations may prove to be tricky for the state’s economy.
7. Accepting a PIL, the Madras High Court sought the response of the Tamil Nadu government and asked it to provide the details regarding the supply of PPE’s to non-medical staff such as policemen, ambulance workers and sanitation workers amongst others.
8. According to Indian Ratings and Research, the state of Tamil Nadu lost Rs 8,412 crores in revenue for the month of April due to severe lockdown conditions that were imposed.
9. Dodabasthi village in Bengaluru Urban district has been de-notified as a containment zone by the district administration.
