The New York Times on Sunday, devoted its entire front page to a long list of names of the people who have lost their lives in the coronavirus pandemic.
The names and brief descriptions taken from obituaries from around the country filled six columns under the header that read “U.S. Deaths Near 100,000, an Incalculable Loss,” with a subheadline reading- “They Were Not Simply Names on a List. They Were Us.”
Instead of the articles, photographs or graphics that normally appear on the front page of The New York Times, on Sunday, there was just a list: a long, solemn list of people whose lives were lost to the coronavirus pandemic.

“As the death toll from Covid-19 in the United States approaches 100,000, a number expected to be reached in the coming days, editors at The Times have been planning how to mark the grim milestone”, a New York Times article explaining the project quoted.
The death toll in the US has now crossed 97,000 while the total number of cases now stands beyond 1.6 million.
