COVID-19 | Top 10 developments in India this Wednesday morning

India reported 9,985 new COVID-19 cases and 279 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the country now at stand 2,76,583, including 1,33,632 active cases, 1,35,206 cured/discharged/migrated and 7,745 deaths, according to the Health Ministry Wednesday morning update.

Top 10 developments in India this morning:

1. 2,259 COVID-19 cases and 120 deaths reported in Maharashtra on Tuesday. The total number of cases in the state is now at 90,787, including 42,638 recovered, 44,849 active cases, and 3,289 deaths: State Health Department

2. Delhi has projected an exponential growth in the city’s numbers to 5.5 lakh by July end. Currently, the city has recorded 31,309 cases.

3. 1,685 COVID-19 cases and 21 deaths reported in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. The total number of cases in the state is now at 34,914, including 16,279 active cases, 18,325 discharged, & 307 deaths: State Health Department

4. 91 new COVID-19 cases reported in Kerala on Tuesday. The total active cases in the state stand at 1,231, while 848 people have recovered from the disease: Government of Kerala

5. So far, more than 4347 Shramik Special services have been operated by Indian Railways to transport approximately 60 lakh persons to their destination states. Shramik trains are being run since 1st May 2020: Ministry of Railways

6. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a further extension of the validity date of motor vehicle documents till September this year: Ministry of Road Transport and Highways

7. The nurses union of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi has called off its one-week agitation after hospital administration agreed to fulfil the demands of striking nurses.

8. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Goa is now 359, including 29 positive cases reported on Tuesday: State Health Department

9. A total of 4,346 positive cases have been detected in Jammu and Kashmir so far – 939 in Jammu and 3,407 in Kashmir. 48 deaths and 1,506 people recoveries have been reported so far: Govt of J&K

10. 1,871 Mumbai police personnel have been infected with COVID-19 so far, including 853 recovered and 21 deaths. 82 positive cases also reported among State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) personnel deployed in the city: Mumbai Police
