FAKE Alert: Old video of magic trick shared with ‘extremists burning Muslims for cow slaughter’ claim

Date:

A video showing some men chained and set on fire is being shared on social media with a claim that four Muslims were set on fire by extremists in India for slaughtering cows.

The caption of the video read: ‘Can’t believe eyes, in the supervision of police & massive crowd. They slaughtered a cow, meagre a cow. Extremists who have taken over #Endia believe that cows are holier than a human being. World is quiet for the sake of business. Your tongues & hands aren’t tightened, please boycott this beastly nation. #BoycottIndia‘.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above video and found that the claim attached to the video is FAKE.

When we put the keyframes of the viral video through Reverse Image Search, we came across the extended version of the video on YouTube dated August 25, 2017. It was posted by MM Puthiyath, a magician based in Kerala.

The caption of the video read: ‘Worlds first mass fire escape by four magicians on Malappuram @2008. The magicians are MM puthiyath Edavanna, magician Shajahan Mampad, magician Sudeer Chungathara, magician Hameed Edakkara’.

We further contacted Puthiyath who confirmed that the video shows a magic trick which was performed by him and some fellow magicians in 2008.

Our investigation clearly establishes that the men in the video are performing a magic trick, not being tossed in the fire as claimed by the viral post.
