In a fresh development, two new corona positive cases have been reported in New Zealand on Tuesday. These cases are of two women, who had travelled from the UK to New Zealand to meet a dying parent.
These women travelled from the UK, via Brisbane, on June 7 and reached Auckland on June, 12. Post this, they went under preventive quarantine in Auckland in a managed isolation Hotel. On June,13 they received an exemption to travel to Wellington, after which one of the women developed mild symptoms of the virus. However, it was put down under her pre-existing conditions.
They travelled to Wellington in a private vehicle and did not use any public transport. The women were tested on Monday and the report came out on Tuesday.
Following the incident, Dr. Arshley Boomfield, Director General of Health on Tuesday said that “anyone being released for compassionate exemption (to be) tested and (have) a negative result” before they are released.

There was a strict notice released last week on June 8, that all travellers to New Zealand have to undergo a 14 day quarantine period and have to be tested. The country also removed the domestic restrictions, owing to the fact that the country had been virus free for 24 days. The border restrictions are still in place.
New Zealand is one of the few countries that have managed to keep the virus outbreak to the lowest. The numbers now stand at 1, 506, and they have the least death toll at 22. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, their early action, strict and effective policies made them winners against the COVID battle. World over, their example and model has been praised.
