Chennai is under lockdown again for 12 days till June 30 beginning Friday. Lockdown has also been put in force in in four districts of Tamil Nadu.

- Along with Chennai, lockdown will be implemented in Chengalpeer, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur districts under National Disaster Act, 2005
- In Chennai, 288 checkpoints have been by the police to track and monitor lockdown enforcement
- All essential services including hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies, old age homes, orphanages, ambulances and other basic services providers allowed to function as usual
- Public transport including taxis and autorickshaws allowed to ply only for emergency situations
- Grocery stores, vegetable shops and other essential item shops will only open from 6 am to 2 pm
- Residents have been asked to make their purchases within 2 Km radius
- Amma Canteens will remain functional to serve free food to destitute and poor people

What’s not allowed

- Roaming on streets without any valid reason
- If found plying on the road without any pressing reason, vehicle will be seized
- Meat slaughterhouses in Chennai won’t be open
- E- passes that were generated earlier are suspended for the lockdown period

Earlier this week amid rumors, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami announced lockdown plan after consulting health officials as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to show a heavy spike crossing the 50,000 mark.
