COVID-19 | Top 10 Developments In India This Saturday Morning

India reported 19,078 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of positive cases in the country to 1,03,05,788, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) informed on Saturday.

Here are the top 10 developments this morning:

  1. With the objective to gear up for the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccine across the country, the dry run is being conducted by all the States and UT governments from Saturday.
  2. Union Health Minister reviewed the preparations and dry vaccination drill at Delhi’s GTB Hospital.
  3. Vaccination drill is being conducted in all States/UTs today in 116 districts across 259 sites.
  4. The total number of active cases now stands at 2,50,183. As many as 224 lives were claimed by the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,49,218.
    So far 99,06,387 recoveries have been reported in the country.
  5. Maharashtra, one of the worst-affected states, reported 3,524 new cases and 59 deaths in the last 24 hours. There are now 52,084 active cases in the state, the health department informed.So far, 18,32,825 people have recovered, while the death toll stands at 49,580.
  6. Kerala reported 4,991 new cases, 5,153 recoveries, and 23 deaths on Friday. With this, the total number of active cases in the state now stands at 65,054.
  7. As many as 585 new coronavirus cases and 717 recoveries were reported in the national capital on Friday, as per the Delhi Health Department. The total number of positive cases now stands at 6,25,954, while the death toll stands at 10,557, including 21 on Thursday. There are currently 5,358 active cases in the national capital.
  8. The country’s COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 96.08 per cent as more than 23 thousand COVID patients recovered during the last 24 hours. The Health Ministry said, the total number of recoveries has gone up to over 98 lakh 83 thousand.
  9. The flight operations between India and the United Kingdom, which have been banned due to the emergence of the new strain of coronavirus, will be resumed from January 8 till 23.
  10. Acc to sources, Oxford COVID-19 Vaccine has been cleared by the expert panel for India.The Health Ministry has, however, said that the meeting of Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the national drug regulator is still going on and that the SEC will make appropriate recommendations to Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI). The ministry added that the final decision will be taken by the DCGI. The experts are also overlooking the data sought by India’s Indigenous vaccine canditate- ‘Covaxin’  by Bharat Biotech.
