Main Accused Arrested In Budaun Gangrape-Murder Case

Date:

The main accused, a temple priest, in the 50-year-old woman alleged gangraped and murder at a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district has been arrested, police said.

On Sunday, the victim, an Anganwadi worker, who had gone to a temple, was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Her family members had accused the temple priest and his aides of raping and murdering her.

The priest, identified as Satyanand, was hiding in the house of one of his followers in a village from where he was picked up and arrested, PTI reported, quoting District Magistrate Kumar Prashant.

Dropped outside her house on Sunday night, allegedly by the priest and two associates, the woman later died in hospital due to excessive bleeding.

Two of the accused were arrested on Tuesday, while the priest was still on the run. The station house officer (SHO) of Ughaiti police station also had been suspended for laxity in the case.
