In the backdrop of tension between the government and farmers over the three farm laws, a gruesome video of a water tanker crushing some women lying on the ground is doing rounds on the internet. It is being claimed that Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation’s water tanker ran over some women farmers at Ghazipur border.
The caption of the video read, ‘गाजीपुर बॉर्डर पर बिजली काटने के बाद सुबह के समय जब पानी बंद किया तो गाजियाबाद नगर निगम जबरन पानी के टैंकर ले जाने लगा महिला किसान आगे लेट गई तो महिलाओं के ऊपर ट्रैक्टर चढ़ा कर यूपी सरकार अपने पानी के टैंकर वापस ले गई’

When we extracted the keyframes of the video through InVid and put them through Reverse Image Search, we found a report by Jagran dated January 26, 2021, that covered the incident. The headline of the report read, ‘Water tanker mounted on women going to join farmers’ strike in Amritsar, two killed, five injured’ (Translated)
According to the report, the driver of the water tanker accidentally hit and crushed the women. While two women passed away, three were injured.
We also found a statement by Sanjiv Kumar, SHO, Vallah police station, in a report by Zee News. The SHO stated that a water tanker hit five women who were a part of a larger group going to join the sit-in protest in support of farmers and two of whom died while three got seriously wounded. The villagers nabbed the driver and called the police and the police started the investigation and took the driver into custody.
According to an eye witness, a water tanker ran over a group of women who were on their way to join the sit-in supporting farmers’ interests after paying obeisance in Gurudwara.

The above information proves that the incident did not take place at Ghazipur border and is being shared with misleading claims.
