FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found that the claim is false.

On running a Reverse Image Search on Google, we found that the photo was published on Twitter by EUobserver editor-in-chief Koert Debeuf on February 5, 2017.

”Wow. Bucharest, Romania tonight. The people ask the government to leave,” the tweet reads.

Political scientist Ian Bremmer tweeted the same photo on February 5, 2017.

We also found several videos and reports that confirmed that a massive anti-corruption protest took place in the Romanian capital Bucharest in February 2017.

”Massive protest at Victory Square in Bucharest on Feb 5, 2017”, reported the TIME Magazine.

However, we also found the Associated Press report stating that hundreds of Romanians protested in Bucharest in October 2020, accusing the government of not protecting the hospitality sector during the pandemic.

From the above information, it is clear that the photo has re-surfaced with a fake claim. The picture is from the Romanian protest that took place in 2017.
