Fact Check: 2020 Video Of Police Action During COVID-19 Curfew In Amravati Shared As Recent

Maharashtra has been witnessing an upsurge in COVID-19 cases for the past few days. In view of this, new restrictions have been issued by the state government.

In this backdrop, a video of lathi-charge by the police is being shared on social media with a claim that the video was taken recently when people were lathi-charged for violating COVID-19 protocol.

“अमरावती शहर के नए रुझान नए लोक डॉन के परिणाम,” the post caption read.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found out that the video is old.

We extracted keyframes from the video and put them through Reverse Image Search. The search led us to the same video on YouTube, which was uploaded in March 2020.

“Rajkamal Chowk [Amravati] Police beating people one by one during lockdown/curfew perfectly,” the title of the YouTube video uploaded on March 25, 2020, read.

The same video was uploaded by a verified channel Nation Next in March 2020.
We also saw names of the multiple shops and ran a search based on them.
We found that the video is from Rajkamal Chowk, Amravati.
Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the post is misleading as the video in question is old.
