Days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was injured after she was allegedly attacked while campaigning in Nandigram on March 10, a picture is being shared on social media with a claim that she ‘walked’ away from her wheelchair, insinuating that her leg injury was just a poll gimmick.
A Facebook user shared the picture with a Hindi caption, “ये दो दिन पहले पाँव में #प्लास्टर बांधे कराह रही थीं अब शाम को व्हीलचेयर से उठ कर चल पड़ी..
#बंगाल में चमत्कार पर चमत्कार हो रहे हैं मोदी है तो मुमकिन है.”
(Translation: She was moaning with #plaster in her feet two days ago and now got up from her wheelchair in the evening. Miracles are happening in Bengal, it is possible if Modi is there.)

Fact Check
NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found it to be fake.
Firstly, we cropped Mamata Banerjee’s image from the viral photograph and then ran a Reverse Image Search on that. This led us to an article by Hindustan Times, dated June 15, 2012, featuring Banerjee, in the same pose.
On comparing both the viral and original images, one can clearly see that the viral image has been photoshopped.
On digging further, we found the original image, which shows Banerjee being wheeled out of a hospital in Kolkata, in an article by Amar Ujala.
We then compared the original image with the photoshopped image, as can be seen below.
Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the 2012 image has been edited with the recent picture of Mamata Banerjee in a wheelchair. Therefore, the claim with the viral image is false.
