Uttarakhand CM Draws Flak For His ‘Ripped Jeans’ Comment

The newly appointed Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat had found himself in choppy waters after his comments on ripped jeans worn by women had drawn a lot of flack and backlash.

Women rights activists, opposition and even celebrities criticised Uttarakhand CM’s comments that wearing ripped jeans is not Indian culture but aping the West.

“Showing bare knees by wearing ripped jeans just to look like rich kids is the value given now which is just a race towards westernisation when the Western world today is following us. Ripped jeans pave the way for societal breakdown and is a bad example parents set for children,” he had said.


Netizens have taken it strongly upon themselves to challenge the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s comments, with even celebs like Navya Naveli Nanda and Gul Panag reacting against it.

Congress leader Garima Dasauni also said being the chief minister does not give Rawat a right to speak on anyone’s lifestyle choices. “It was a highly derogatory statement… He has no right to speak on anyone’s attire or food habits…”
