Date:

What looked like a bizarre view for onlookers, a passenger train travelled 35 Kilometres backward in Uttarakhand. The unconventional incident happened on a train travelling from Delhi to Uttarakhand.

The Purnagiri Janshatabdi Express was on its way to Uttarakhand’s Tanakpur from Delhi when the driver had to press brakes to avoid collision with an animal that had strayed on to the railway tracks.

After this, the driver lost control of the locomotive and it started moving backwards, it had travelled for atleast 35km in the same fashion until it reached the Khatima railway station.

Superintendent of Police of Champawat, Lokeshwar Singh, said it is likely that sudden brakes were applied to avoid the possibility of hitting an animal, following which the train suddenly started running in the opposite direction.

It was also reported that there were about 60-70 passengers in the train and they were safely taken to Chakrapur and sent to their destination by buses. However, no one was injured in the incident.
