Fact Check: Picture Of Sculpture In Thailand Museum Passed Off As That Of Temple In Varanasi

Date:

A picture showing a sculpture is doing rounds on the internet. It is being claimed that the sculpture in the picture is from the Kashiraj Kali Mandir in Varanasi.

The caption of the post reads, “क्या ये लकड़ी है??,,,काठ से बना है??? नहीं,,ये पत्थर है,,,असली आश्चर्य ताजमहल नहीं है अचरज मत करिए,,ये तो सनातन स्थापत्य विज्ञान का छोटा सा नमूना है,,, जो मिटा दिया है आपकी किताबों से इतिहासकारों ने,,काशीराज_काली_मंदिर_बनारस”.

(Translation- Is it wood? Is it made of wood? No, this is stone. The real wonder is not the Taj Mahal. This is a small sample of Sanatan architecture, which has been erased by historians from your books- Kashiraj Kali Mandir Varanasi)

FACT CHECK

We fact-checked the above post and found that these sculptures are not present in the Varanasi temple.

We put the pictures through Reverse Image Search and found a similar picture on iStock website. The caption of the picture read, “PATTAYA, THAILAND- April 30, 2019: Sanctuary of Truth or Prasat Sajja Tham is religious sanctuary under construction, its all-wood building filled with traditional sculptures. stock photo”.

As per the description, the picture shows a sculpture in an unfinished museum in Pattaya, Thailand.

We further searched for the museum on Google Maps and found the same sculpture in the building using street view.

We also found a similar picture on the TripAdvisor website and a video on YouTube showing the same sculpture in Thailand.

The above information proves that the pictures in question are not from Kashiraj Kali Mandir in Varanasi but a museum in Thailand. Hence, the post is fake.
