FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.
We ran the picture through Reverse Image Search and found the same picture in an article by India Times. According to the article, the document is a vaccination certificate and not a death certificate.
The article reported that ‘Maharashtra Minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik said that if the vaccination certificates carry Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo, then the death certificates of the COVID victims should also carry his image’.
We also compared the document in the viral picture to another vaccine certificate NewsMobile obtained independently and found out that the format is exactly the same.
Moreover, we also found a few reports regarding the stir caused by PM Modi’s picture on the vaccination certificate.
According to an article by LiveMint dated March 6, 2021, the Election Commission (EC) also asked the Central Government to remove Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo from Covid-19 vaccine certificates of four states and one union territory where Assembly elections were scheduled.
Moreover, we also looked for reports that would corroborate the claim but did not find any.
Hence, we can conclude, that the post is misleading and is being shared with a false narrative.
