Fact Check: Does This CT Scan Report Show Lungs Of COVID-19 Vaccinated Person? Here’s the truth

Date:

An image allegedly showing CT scan report of lungs of a person vaccinated against COVID-19 has gone viral on social media. It is being claimed that the image on the left indicating  clear lungs is of a COVID-19 positive patient who has been vaccinated already. The image is shared with a message urging people to get vaccinated.

The Facebook post was shared with a caption that reads, “Can you see why you should get vaccinated at the first chance you get? See the CT scan difference between two COVID positive patients.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be false.

We Reverse Image Searched the photo and found a similar photo comparison of two CT scan reports in an article published in April 2020. In April 2020, vaccination for COVID-19 was not available.

According to the article, this CT scan report comparison is related to a research study that aimed to detect the extent of COVID-19 infection using CT scans. Researchers and radiologists from Vancouver General Hospital, the University of British Columbia, and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute conducted this research study to predict the presence of COVID-19 using CT scans.

Taking a cue from this, we searched further and found out this research on ‘The University of British Columbia’ website.

A similar CT scan comparison image was found to be published in the research study on detecting the COVID-19 virus using CT scans.

Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute also published the same image on their website while explaining their research study on diagnosing COVID-19 infection using CT scans.

While the post is being shared with an intent to encourage people to get vaccinated for COVID-19, the image does not represent lungs of a COVID-19 vaccinated person. Hence, the viral claim is fake.

However, we must reiterate that vaccination is a must and every eligible individual must get vaccinated against COVID-19 to ensure we are able to defeat the coronavirus pandemic.
