FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.

While looking for similar posts on Facebook, we found that the same message was also in circulation for other cities like Delhi, Bhopal and Chennai.

On further investigation, we found a tweet by PRO Defence Mumbai, refuting the viral claim.

“FAKE NEWS ALERT! There is a message circulating on social media that a 1000 bedded #COVID19 care hospital by Indian Armed Forces has been established near Airport terminal T1 at #Mumbai. This has no basis and is FAKE news,” they tweeted.

We then ran another keyword search and found an article by All India Radio stating that Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has reopened the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel COVID-19 Hospital in Delhi Cantt. The hospital has been established near Domestic Airport Terminal in New Delhi. It has 500 ICU beds.

We also found a tweet by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, dated April 24, stating the same.

The @DRDO_India is adding another 250 beds later in the evening today at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel COVID hospital in New Delhi, taking the total number of beds to 500. In Gujarat, a 1,000-bed hospital has become operational,” he tweeted.

Thus, from the above fact check, we can conclude that the message about Armed Forces setting up a 1,000-bed COVID-19 facility near Mumbai airport’s Terminal 1 is false and misleading.
