Fact Check: Message About COVID-19 Falsely Attributed To Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev Goes Viral

Date:

A message, attributed to Isha Foundation’s head and spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev is being shared on social media. The purported message claims that the best way to sustain the coronavirus spread is to not be afraid and not think about it.

“Msg from Sadhguru Let’s try to do for a day and to see the difference
“Whatever we are talking about is what we are perpetuating in our experience. The only way to keep any kind of illness or virus or flu away is to not talk about it and it will dissipate itself. What we do instead is keep checking the statistics or keep spreading the “awareness” messages on social media without noticing it that the more we talk about it the more it becomes active in our vibration. History is full of evidence of epidemics because of the mass consciousness created by fear of the disease. Fear is a very strong vibration and more fearful we are of any epidemic it becomes a reality very fast.. it’s the law. The more you feed the energy of fear the more profound it becomes. Ignore the things you don’t want to participate in. Stop discussing it with family and friends; stop checking out the latest statistics. Stop watching incessantly the news about Corona Virus. Take your attention away and It has no power on you. The creation of anything is to give thought to it by keeping it active in our vibration by being afraid of it. Hook yourself up with ever flowing stream of well- being”. Love and light to all. Sadhguru,” the viral post read.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.

We searched for media reports related to Sadhguru’s statement regarding COVID-19 but did not find anything to support the viral claim.

An India Today report dated April 14, 2021, quoted him as saying, “The most important thing now is to stay alive. Ensure that you stay alive. Let’s value life first. I understand there is pain but life is foremost. We must also focus on helping those in the lower strata. Let us help to our capacity. Don’t count your money at this time.”

We also checked YouTube channel and social media handles of Sadhguru and Isha Foundation and found a tweet dated Mar 23, 2020, wherein they have refuted the viral claim.

Namaskaram, Please note that a message wrongly attributed to Sadhguru about dealing with Coronavirus fears has been spread on social media. This message and any quotes within it are not from Sadhguru. Please do not forward it,” the tweet read.

Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the viral message is falsely attributed to Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev.
