A video has gone viral on social media in which a man can be seen placing his hand on the shoulder of the District Magistrate of Gonda prompting a rebuke from the DM. It is being claimed that the person who placed his hand on the DM’s shoulder was the Chief Judicial Magistrate.
The post is being shared on Facebook with a caption in Hindi that translates to, “By the way, Chief Judicial Magistrate and DM are of the same rank. But when the Chief Judicial Magistrate laid his hand on the back of Gonda’s DM Sahib, then the DM Sahab got furious. It is absolutely wrong to put such hands-on someone’s back in public, the Chief Judicial Magistrate has really committed indiscipline.”

Doing a Google Search with relevant keywords directed us to an article published on May 28, 2021. According to the news report, Ajay Dwivedi, Chief General Manager of Babhanan Sugar Mill placed his hand on the shoulder of Gonda DM.
We also found another news article published on May 28, 2021, which also stated that “District Magistrate Markandey Shahi had gone to CHC Chapia of Gonda district on 26th May this year. Where he checked the centre and a nearby pathology centre. During this, a person reached there and started talking to the DM. In the meantime, this person put his hand on the shoulder of DM Markandeya Shahi and the DM got angry and reprimanded that person. The man who put his hand on DM’s shoulder is Ajay Dwivedi, the chief general manager of a sugar mill.”
Searching further, we found the viral video uploaded on the YouTube channel of News 18 virals on May 28, 2021.
The viral video was also uploaded on the YouTube channel of UP Tak. It was stated in this video that the person who placed his hand on DM’s shoulder was the manager of the sugar mill.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that the person who placed his hand on the DM’s shoulder was not a magistrate, but the manager of a sugar mill. Therefore, the viral claim is misleading.
