Nepal Flash Floods Suspected To Be An Effect Of Glacier Burst

Date:

Sindhupalchok, Nepal flash floods which has led to disasters not only in the country but in Bhutan too, is suspected to be caused due to glacier burst near Tibetan Territory.

The floods which hit the country on Tuesday has already caused death of 7 people while many are still missing.

In an interview with ANI, Rudra Prasad Dalal, ward Chair of Sindhupalchok ward 11 said “reason behind this flash flood is attributed to heavy rainfall in upper lying areas . Shaken by the 2072 (Nepali date of 2015 earthquake) earthquake, creeks on the inner areas of the hills are suspected to be swept by large masses of ice and muds contained by it. We have suspected it to be a reason for flooding.”

Melamchi town, survival of the 2015 earthquake and wildfire, once an attractive marketplace and center of attraction has now submerged in mud, sand, and water. At least 200 houses have destroyed as a result people have shifted to a local school which is located near the marketplace.

The early monsoon, as well as glacier burst, are suspected for the swelling in the rivers.
