An image of a medal is being shared on social media with a claim that volunteers of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will get this medal which has the Hindi word ‘Swayamsevak’ inscribed on it along with other languages.
“The medal to be given to #TokyoOlympics Volunteers also has inscription in hindi *स्वंयसेवक*. feel this is a big achievement for #India & its stature in todays world. Feel Proud & share,” the Facebook post read.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.
We put the viral image through Reverse Image Search and found the same picture on eBay. “Olympic Tokyo2020 pin volunteer languages benevole volontair pin” the label read.
We then checked the official website of Tokyo Olympics 2020 to find out more information about facilities and items that would be provided to volunteers.
The list mentions basic items like a set of uniforms, food and beverages during volunteer activity, travel expenses (1,000 Yen/day) and insurance specific to volunteer activity. However, there was no mention of any such medals or pins on the list.
Moreover, under the FAQ section, it is also mentioned that volunteers will not receive any certification upon completion of their volunteer work.
After extensively searching the website, we established that the viral medal/pin is not mentioned anywhere on the Tokyo Olympics official website.
Upon searching further, we found that the picture of the medal was also shared by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra and the post has since been deleted. Talking to India Today, he said that he is not aware of the source of the image and IOA has nothing to do with this volunteer medal news.
Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the viral claim is false and misleading.
