NewsMobile Special: Republic Day Celebrated With Fervour At India House In Washington

Date:

India’s 73rd Republic Day was celebrated at India House in Washington DC on Wednesday.  The elegant ceremony was marked in freezing temperature where selected guests were present.

Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu unfurled the national flag. Speaking at the event, Ambassador Sandhu said, “It was on this day in 1950 that the Constitution adopted by the people of India, with Democracy, Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity as its guiding principles, came into effect. The Constitution laid the foundation of the world’s largest democracy and one of the most vibrant ones. This shaped India’s journey as a nation in the last seven decades.”

“The Diaspora has been an important pillar of the relationship, which continues to strengthen ties through its achievements in diverse sectors and contribute to India’s development journey,” he further said.

The event was followed by the playout of President of India’s Republic Day eve speech and patriotic songs recorded by children across the US.

Meanwhile, Indians across the globe also celebrated Republic Day amid Covid-19 restrictions. And several world leaders, including British, Australian, Israeli and Bangladeshi Prime Ministers extended their greetings on the occasion, highlighting their strong friendship with India.
