UP Assembly Polls 5th Phase Records Nearly 54% Turn-out

New Delhi: Around 54 percent of 2.24 crore-strong electorate cast their votes in the fifth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections till 5 p.m. on Sunday.

A total of 61 constituencies across 12 districts went to the polls in this phase where electors decided the fate of 692 candidates in fray.

The holy town of Ayodhya which was the epicenter of the Ram temple movement, and nearby Amethi and Raebareli are some of the important districts in the fifth phase. Voters from districts such as Sultanpur, Chitrakoot, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Barabanki, Bahraich, Shravasti and Gonda also exercised their franchise.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in his Lok Sabha constituency of Varanasi and took a swipe at the opposition in U.P., dubbing their parties as private parties while describing the BJP as a party of workers.

While addressing party workers in Varanasi, PM Modi asked them to ensure that the poor receive the benefits of the government’s welfare schemes.

Two more phases of polling remain in U.P. for the on-going assembly elections. Counting of votes will be taken up on March 10.
