Why PM Modi Mentioned Tanzanian Internet Sensation Kili Paul

Date:

2.5 million followers on Instagram and counting.

Killi Paul is an internet sensation.

The content creator from Tanzania is hugely popoular for lip-syncing to Indian songs.

In his monthly Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the Tanzanian siblings, Paul and his sister Neema, and encouraged citizens to create lip-sync videos of famous regional songs as part of the ongoing festivities of India’s 75th year of independence.

Through Kili’s example, he advised that Indians lip-sync songs in Indian languages other than their own mother tongue.

“I am grateful to them. Just like them, how about our kids doing the same… Like Kannada students lip-syncing in the Kashmiri language,” PM Narendra Modi said.

“Just like the sibling duo of Kili & Neema, I urge everyone, especially kids from different states to make lip-syncing videos of popular songs (from a state different than theirs). We’ll redefine ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat‘ & popularise Indian languages,” he added.

The siblings Kili-Neema, have comfortably lip-synced to songs in Hindi, Haryanavi, and Punjabi. Some of their viral videos include Pushpa’s ‘Srivalli,’ as well as the Bengali song ‘Kacha Badam – the latter garnered nearly 5 Million likes.
