Fact Check: Did PM Modi Say ‘Divide Everyone And Loot Together’? Here’s The Truth

Date:

Ahead of the assembly election results on March 10, a small video clip has surfaced on social media platforms suggesting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi said ”divide everyone and loot together” in one of his speeches.

A Facebook user shared the image with a caption in Hindi that roughly translates to, “put enmity among everybody.”

The same video clip is doing rounds on Twitter with a similar caption.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video and found that the video is cropped and is being shared with a false claim.

On performing a relevant keyword search, we found longer version of the same video that was shared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his official Twitter page on February 11, 2022.  The video was shared with a caption in Hindi that says, “Not only in Uttarakhand, but in the whole country, the policy of Congress has been – divide everyone, loot together!”

The relevant section of the video can be seen at 1 minute mark in the video.

In the video, PM Modi targets the opposition, especially Congress, and says, “The formula of our opposition is just to divide everybody and then loot them together.” Now a small part of this video has been cropped out and is being widely shared with a false claim.

Therefore, it can be concluded that the video is being shared with a false claim.
