A CCTV footage of a shopkeeper being attacked by a few people is being shared on social media with the claim that members of a minority community were attacked after the release of the film ‘The Kashmir Files’.
The video was shared with the Hindi caption, “कश्मीर फाइल्स देखने के बाद आतंकवादी गुंडे मुसलमानों पर हमला कर रहें हैं अगर ऐसा आतंकवादी तुम्हारे पास भी पहुँच जाएँ तो अपनी बचाव जरूर करें !”
(English Translation: Terrorist goons are attacking Muslims after seeing Kashmir Files, if such terrorists reach you too, then definitely defend yourself.)

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post and found it to be misleading.
We extracted the keyframes of the video and put them through Reverse Image Search. The search led us to a report by News18 Gujarati published on March 20, 2022. “Video: Lukkha terror in Surat, sword attack on shopkeeper protesting against instalment payment,” the google translation of the headline read.
As per the report, the shopkeeper in the Salabatpura area of Bhathena in Surat was asked to pay the instalment by attackers. However, when the shopkeeper refused to do so, he was attacked with a sword and sticks and the entire incident was captured on CCTV.
We also reached out to the Salabatpura police station for further confirmation. The police clarified that the incident was related to some internal conflict and has no relation to ‘The Kashmir Files’.
