Colombo: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Basil Ranatunga and discussed ‘the economic situation and supportive response of India’.
Jaishankar will also meet the leadership of the Sri Lankan government including his Sri Lankan counterpart GL Peiris. This meeting takes place while Sri Lanka is in the midst of an economic crisis where a lot of countries including India extended help of $2 billion.
Jaishankar arrived in Colombo on Sunday night to attend the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative of Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic cooperation) to be held over two days.
He was received by ministers Gamini Lokuge, Johnston Fernando, Prasanna Ranatunga, and D.V. Chanaka, each of them heading important portfolios of Energy, Highway, Tourism, and Civil Aviation respectively.
