Fact Check: Scripted Video Of Army Personnel Helping A Stranded Family Viral As A Real Incident

Date:

Recently, a video showing some army men helping a family stuck on the road has surfaced on social media platforms with captions appreciating their effort. The video shows a man, who was accompanied by his wife and daughter, fixing his motorbike as it stopped on the road at night. The video further shows army personnel helping the family by offering them their motorbike.

A Facebook user shared the video with the caption, “Self less service to nation 24/7! The reason why we respect the men in uniform so much. #JaiHind #IADN.”

At the time of writing this article, this video has been reshared over 23,000 times.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the video and found it to be misleading.

On doing a Reverse Image Search, we found a longer version of the video on user Hamsa Nandini’s Facebook page uploaded on March 5, 2021. The caption with the video clearly mentions that the page carries ‘scripted dramas and parodies.’

“Indian Army. Thank you for watching! Please be aware that this page features scripted dramas and parodies as well. These short films are for entertainment & educational purposes only!,” reads the caption.

Earlier too, NewsMobile had fact-checked similar ‘awareness’ and ‘educational’ videos which went viral with false claims. Here are some of the other claims that we debunked:

Therefore, a video made for awareness purposes is being falsely shared as a real incident.
