Fact Check: Video Of Confiscation Of Sugarcane Juice Seller’s Machine Is From Noida, NOT Jaipur

Date:

A video in which a sugarcane juice seller can be seen pleading with an official to release his confiscated machine is being widely shared on social media with a claim that this happened in Jaipur.

The video is being shared on Facebook with a Hindi caption, “यह पोस्ट जयपुर की है और यहां बेचारे सतीश भाई अपना धंधा पानी चला रहे थे गन्ना मशीन के द्वारा और इस अधिकारी ने उनकी मशीन को उठवा कर कचरा गाड़ी में फिकवा दिया है इसलिए इस (मुर्ख) अधिकारी को निलंबित करवाने में मदद करें इस पोस्ट को अधिक से अधिक भेजे ताकि यह निलंबित हो जाए”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.

Looking closely at the video, we found a scooter whose number plate had “UP” written on it. Also, ‘Noida’ can be seen written on the headlight of the scooter.

Taking a cue from this, we Reverse Image Searched keyframes of the viral video and found the same video uploaded by a Congress leader on March 23, 2022, with the caption, “Baba’s bulldozer and the poor’s tears”. According to the Twitter post, the video is from Noida sector 42, Aghapur Village.

The same video was also tweeted by Vinod Kapri on March 23, 2022, stating that the video is from Noida in Uttar Pradesh.

Searching further, we found several news articles that reported the same incident. “The video of Noida, Uttar Pradesh is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In this video, some Noida officials take away the sugarcane machine of Satish Gurjar, a seller of sugarcane juice, with a bulldozer,” reads a news report by Jansatta on March 24, 2022.

We also found a tweet by Noida Authority dated March 24, 2022. In this video, Satish Gurjar says the crusher has been returned to him. Along with this, he has also been given a place in the authorized vending zone of Noida Sector 50. Satish also thanked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and admitted that he was selling sugarcane juice without any valid vending license in the ‘Non-Vending Zone’.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral video is from Noida and not Jaipur. Therefore, the claim is misleading.
