IPL 2022: Kohli’s Dismissal Sparks Controversy

Date:

Mumbai: Royal Challengers Bangalore’s star batsman Virat Kohli left the ground furious after a controversial 3rd umpire call that dismissed Kohli for LBW in the last game against Mumbai Indians.

Virat Kohli was in-touch from the start of his innings. He was playing on 48 runs in 36 deliveries when he was dismissed by Dewald Brevis. Virat Kohli vented out his anger at the decision made by the 3rd umpire as he left the ground.

The whole incident sparked controversy across the internet with fans sharing screenshots of the ball that led to the dismissal of Virat. The Iceland Cricket Association took a dig at the umpire’s decision and tweeted that “every TV umpire should make the right call with the benefits of slow motions and replays and technology like Ultraedge.” They further offered to send in “trained umpires” for further matches, mocking the 3rd Umpire’s call.

However, Royal Challengers won the game against Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets but fans could not hold their disbelief and anger at the decision.

Here are some of the reactions:

One of the users put up a screenshot of the rule book pointing out the rule of “Interception of the ball” during an LBW decision. He also tagged Wasim Jaffer, Irfan Pathan, Aakash Chopra, and Yuvraj Singh in his tweet.
