Fact Check: Old Image Shared As Recent Rally In Support Of Ousted Pakistan PM Imran Khan

Date:

Imran Khan was ousted as Pakistan Prime Minister on April 10, 2020, through a no-confidence vote held in the National Assembly. He has been organizing rallies since then urging people to call for fresh elections. On April 21, Imran Khan addresses yet another rally “calling for fresh polls in Pakistan.”

Against this backdrop, a collage of images showing a huge gathering of people is being widely shared on social media claiming that it shows people gathered in support of ousted Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The image is shared on Facebook with the caption, “PTI Imran Khan Jalsa, Lahore”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.

Doing a Reverse Image Search of the above image directed us to the official Facebook page of Imran Khan where the same viral image was posted on April 29, 2018.

The editor of Pakistan Passion, Saj Sadiq, also tweeted the viral image on April 30, 2018, with the text, “Incredible scenes at the PTI jalsa in Lahore. Must feel like the MCG in 1992 for Imran Khan.” The same image was also carried on a Pakistani news website in 2018.

Doing a Reverse Image Search of the second image directed us to a website that carried the image on October 9, 2015, stating it shows, “PTI Muzang Chungi 9 Oct 2015 Jalsa.” Although we could not verify the location of the second image, it is evident from the above information that it has been on the internet since 2015.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral claim is misleading.
