A 300-year-old temple was demolished during an anti-encroachment drive in Rajasthan’s Alwar on April 17, 2022, according to a media report.
In the above context, an image of a bulldozer demolishing a temple is being widely shared with a claim that this happened during the anti-encroachment drive in Alwar.
The image is being shared with a caption that reads, “Pseudo seculars reached SC for just demolishment of illegal encroachments( not building)in delhi..and now mute on demolish of 300-year-old temple building in alwar by Khangress govt.”

NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be misleading.
On doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found the same image was published by India Times on June 12, 2015, with a title that read, “200-Year-Old Temples Destroyed So That Jaipur Can Have Its Metro.”
The report read: “Amidst massive protests, the district administration and Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) demolished two temples from Walled City area, which were said to be centuries old. The drive was initiated at 4 am to demolish Rojgareshwar Mahadev and Khasthharan Mahadev temples, obstructing the construction of Metro corridor proposed from Chandpole to Badi Chaupar.”
Another website, Jaipur Info Rail also published the same image on January 12, 2016. The article associated with the report read, “The seven temples bringing about an obstacle in the development of Jaipur Metro in Walled City territory and will be moved soon. The organization and RSS have demonstrated and agree to move the temples from the area behind Manak Chowk. The nonconformists have likewise raised the interest to build temples structures before annihilating them. The choice has been taken as there is no extension for change in the course of the metro route.”
Hindustan Times had also reported about the incident.
