A post has resurfaced on social media which claimed that the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Raghuram Rajan, has been appointed as the Governor of the Bank of England.
The caption in Hindi with Raghuram Rajan’s picture read: “श्री रघुराम राजन जी को बैंक ऑफ इंगलैंड का गवर्नर बनाये जाने पर बहुत बहुत बधाई।। ”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be false.
We started our investigation with a simple Google search using keywords such as ‘Raghuram Rajan’, ‘Governor’, ‘Bank of England’. However, we did not find any article to corroborate the viral claim.
Taking our investigation further, we scanned through the official website of the Bank of England. In the ‘About‘ section of the website, we found that Andrew Bailey is the current Governor of the Bank of England who was appointed in 2020.
Further, we found the list of previous Governors and found that before Bailey, Mark Carney served the office of the Governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020.
Hence, with the above information, it is established that the former RBI Governor, Raghuram Rajan is/was NOT appointed as the Governor of the bank of England and the viral claim in circulation is FAKE.
