Over one million tickets sold, dozens of new star athletes signed up, thousands of volunteer applications obtained, and plenty of sold-out incidents are growing rapidly. The events in Birmingham will be the first major global multisport event with observers since the outbreak began, so the competition is intense, but the excitement is incredible.
The selection board chose 37 athletes to represent India 19 men and 18 women. Last year at the Tokyo Olympics, Indian athletes reached new levels when Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, and Mirabai Chanu won medals in their chosen sport.
400 students from 14 Birmingham schools will start competing for medals and the title of Commonwealth champions in basketball, water polo, and dodgeball.
Opening and Closing Ceremony
It is being regarded as Birmingham’s big platform to show itself on the global stage, and construction work is ramping up quickly. Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr, which will host athletics and even the opening and closing ceremonies, is undergoing a £72 million renovation to increase capacity to approximately 30,000 people. Sandwell Aquatics Centre is the only venue built for the games, and it will host 11 days of swimming, diving and para-swimming.
Introduction of New sports
Cricket -Women’s T20 Cricket is one of three new games leading the way in Birmingham, which has the ideal venue in Edgbaston, a sports arena with a history dating back to 1882.
Volleyball – While cricket has a long and glorious past in the area, beach volleyball is less commonly associated with Birmingham’s modernity, which must contribute to making its presence at the Games an exciting innovation.
Para Table Tennis – Para Table Tennis is set to be implemented into the current table tennis plan, making the addition of a new sport simple. Its presence would add to the program’s diversification by highlighting an unexpected eighth para-sport.
Past Experiences
India placed third in the medals table at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, with 26 gold, 20 silver, and 20 bronze, trailing only Australia and England. The eligibility and team evaluations are still in progress, with the Birmingham Games to begin on July 28.
