Indian Chess Legend Viswanathan Anand Becomes FIDE Deputy President

Chennai: Indian chess legend Viswanathan Anand was elected as the deputy president of FIDE, the world’s governing body on Sunday.

The incumbent President Arkady Dvorkovich was re-elected as the president for a second term.

According to a report of PTI, the election of the world chess body president alongside the 44th Chess Olympiad.

Five-time world Chess Champion Anand was part of Dvorkovich’s team. Currently, Anand is mentoring the Indian chess team in the Chess Olympiad tournament.

He has further expressed his desire to do something for the game in capacity as an administrator and he has also backed the work done by Dvorkovich’s work in the past.

Arkady Dvorkovich in an earlier interview added that “I am really proud to have Anand running for deputy president. He is a great person and has a great personality. He has been a long-time friend.”
