NewsMobile fact-checked the picture and we found out that it was an old photograph.
On putting the photograph through Reverse Image Search, we found that the same image in a report by Indian Express dated May 17, 2016. The headline of the report read, “Social media turns a blessing: Avani’s missing photo goes viral, and she gets her mother back in 20 minutes.”
According to the report, the girl in this picture is Avani Jain. In 2016, she got lost at the Nagpur railway platform. Soon, her picture went viral on Facebook and was shared extensively on WhatsApp.
It was also mentioned that the authorities were able to trace Avani’s mother and relatives within 20 minutes of the picture going viral.
