London: As the Indian Women’s team registered a clean sweep series win against host England, bowler Deepti Sharma’s ‘mankading’ Charlotte Dean has divided fans and veterans of the game.
England Women’s captain Amy Jones said that she is not a fan of Deepti Sharma’s ‘mankading’ act during the game. She further added that “ I am not a fan but it depends how India feels about it. It is within the rules, hopefully does not take the shine off the summer. Lots (of captaincy learning). A massive learning experience. Learned the hard way in the 2nd ODI with some practical errors,”.
Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who was earlier part of mankad in an IPL game took to Twitter and added that “Why the hell are you trending Ashwin? Tonight is about another bowling hero Deepti Sharma.”

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur retaliated during the post-match presentation saying that she doesn’t think her players have done something now and she will back her players because Deepti has not done anything outside of the rules.
This was first done by Indian cricket legend Vinoo Mankad during 1947-48 during India’s tour of Australia by running out Australia’s Bill Brown at non-striker’s end, which earned it the name ‘Mankading’.
Here are some of the reactions:
I find the debate of the Mankad really interesting. So many views from either side. I personally wouldn’t like to win a match like that, also, very happy for others to feel differently https://t.co/BItCNJZqYB

Condemning a player for staying within the laws of the game is strange carriage of justice #DeeptiSharma
