Delhi HC Asks AAP To Take Down ‘Defamatory Posts’ Against L-G

Date:

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday passed an interim injunction asking Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leaders to take down ‘defamatory’ content against Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

The court observed that the comments were made in a reckless manner without any factual verification. The court has further asked AAP leaders to refrain from posting any defamatory or factually incorrect tweets, re-tweets, hashtags, and videos of press conferences against Delhi LG and his family.

The court added, “On a prima facie view, the various statements, interviews, press conferences, tweets, re-tweets, and hashtags made by the defendants are per se defamatory. The same has been made in a reckless manner, without any factual verification, to tarnish the reputation of the plaintiff,”.

Justice Amit Bansal added, “The damage caused to the reputation of an individual is immediate and far-reaching on the internet. So long as the impugned content continues to be in circulation and visible on social media, it is likely to cause continuing damage to the reputation and image of the plaintiff,”.

Earlier, the party accused Saxena of corrupt practices following which Delhi LG approached High Court seeking an injunction that restrained the AAP leaders Durgesh Pathak, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi Marlena, Sanjay Singh, and Jasmine Shah from further leveling allegations against him.
