11 Dead, 38 Injured After Bus Catches Fire In Nashik

Nashik: At least 11 lost their lives and 38 were injured after a bus caught fire in Maharashtra’s Nashik on Saturday morning, officials said.

The bus caught fire on Aurangabad road in Nashik after it collided with a trailer truck transporting diesel.

“Most of those killed were passengers of the bus – a sleeper coach. The injured have been shifted to the hospital for treatment,” Amol Tambe, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nashik, said.

He said a case has been registered and an investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.

  • Reportedly, eyewitnesses say that the accident took place at around 5.15 am after which they called the police and ambulance.
  • Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the tragic incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs from PMNRF to the next of kin of each of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
  • Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced an ex-gratia of ₹ 5 lakh each to the kins of those who died in the accident.
  • State minister Dada Bhuse said the government will bear the medical expenses of the wounded.
