Kochi: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Indian Navy in a coordinated sea operation apprehended a vessel carrying more than 200kgs of narcotics worth around ₹1200 crores and arrested six Iranian crew members.
SK Singh, Deputy Director General of Narcotics Bureau said, “Boat carrying 200kgs heroin worth Rs 1200 crores intercepted by the Indian Navy, six Iranian crew members arrested. Pakistan boat initially carried consignment and transferred it to Iranian boat mid-sea, it was destined for Sri Lanka and part of it was for India,”.
Talking about the inputs he received, he added that the consignment was supplied by the Pakistan-based Hadi Salim network. The network is responsible for supplying heroin, charas, and methamphetamine to India and neighboring countries.
He further added that the smartphones carried by them have been seized. However, no direct link with a terrorist group has been established yet.
The accused who were arrested have confessed that they hail from the Konarak area of Iran.
NCB in a statement said, “This is significant not only in terms of quantity and cost but also signifies a focus on collaborative efforts for disruption of the illegal narcotics smuggling routes, which emanate from the Makran coast and flow towards various IOR countries.”
