A map of India attributed to Byju’s, an online coaching portal, has gone viral on social media. The map labelled a smaller part of Kashmir as Azad Kashmir.
Many social media users are sharing the post online, asking to boycott Byju’s for depicting an incorrect map of India.
The map is being shared with a caption that reads, “Dear BYJU’S BYJU’S IAS BYJU’S Exam Prep BYJU’S JEE BYJU’S CAT BYJU’S FutureSchool Latam is this true?क्या यह आजाद कश्मीर है या पाक अधिकृत कश्मीर…#बायकॉट करना होगा क्या तुम्हारा?” (English translation, “Dear BYJU’S BYJU’S IAS BYJU’S Exam Prep BYJU’S JEE BYJU’S CAT BYJU’S FutureSchool Latam is this true? Is it Azad Kashmir or Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, Byju’s should we boycott you?”)

NewsMobile did a fact check and found the claim to be fake.
We found the logo of the company present on the map is different from the original logo. The original logo does not have an underline below the text and mentions ‘The Learning App’ below Byju’s.
On searching with appropriate keywords, we found a report by NDTV. The report refuted the viral claim. It quoted the spokesperson of the company, as saying, “This is not part of any material that we have distributed. Our curriculum and all material created are strictly aligned to multiple accreditation boards at the national level, and are created keeping in mind the highest standards. We will be reporting this to the concerned authorities for further investigation and action.”
Byju’s also took to Twitter to refute the viral claim. The official statement read, “This is a fake image and not our material. All our content is watermarked and additionally our logo usage is incorrect, we never use an underline below the logo. We strongly condemn the incorrect map of India that is being distributed maliciously with our incorrect logo placed on it. This is not part of any material that we have distributed. Our curriculum and all material created are strictly aligned to multiple accreditation boards at the national level, and are created keeping in mind the highest standards. We will be reporting this to the concerned authorities for further investigation and action.”
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is fake.
