PM Modi Unveils Statue Of Kempegowda, Inaugurates Bengaluru Airport Terminal 2: Highlights

Date:

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled the ‘Statue of Prosperity’, the 108-feet bronze statue of Bengaluru founder Nadaprabhu Kempegowda at Bengaluru airport.

The statue is the first and tallest bronze statue of a founder of a city. The citation by the World Book of Records said the statue stands 108 feet in height with a sword weighing 4 tonnes.

The Chief Minister took to Twitter to share the news and called the record “a matter of pride” for Karnataka.

Apart from this, PM Modi inaugurated Terminal 2 of Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport earlier in the day. The opening of T2 will greatly benefit the populace by doubling the capacity for handling passengers and adding check-in and immigration desks.

With a construction budget of over Rs 5,000 crore, Terminal 2 will increase yearly passenger capacity from 2.5 crore to approximately 5-6 crore.

This airport has already set a standard for sustainability due to its campus-wide use of 100 percent renewable energy. The design of Terminal 2 incorporates sustainability ideas throughout.

PM Modi also flagged off Chennai-Mysuru Vande Bharat Express and Bharat Gaurav Kashi Darshan Train at Kranthiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) Railway Station in Bengaluru.

This is the fifth Vande Bharat Express train in the country and the first such train in South India.

“It will enhance connectivity between the industrial hub of Chennai and the Tech and Startup hub of Bengaluru and the famous tourist city of Mysuru,” the PMO said.

The Prime Minister paid floral tributes to the statues of saint poet Kanakadasa and Maharshi Valmiki at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.
