According to reports, the professor had asked the student his name and upon hearing that it was a Muslim name, had exclaimed, “Oh, you are like Kasab!”
The student can be heard saying in the video, “Being a Muslim and facing this everyday is not funny.”
When the teacher replied that the student was like his son, he said, “No, if a father says like that, it’s on him. It’s not funny.”
“Will you talk like that to your son? Will you call him a terrorist? How can you call me like that in front of so many people? This is a class, you’re professional, and you’re teaching. You can’t call me that,” the student was heard replying.
Later in the video, the teacher is seen apologizing to the student.
MIT suspended the professor and initiated an internal inquiry after the video went viral.
An official from MIT stated, “The lecturer has been barred from taking any further classes. An enquiry team has been formed to probe the incident.”
