The United States and Canada endured a devastating cold wave towards the end of 2022, as temperatures plummeted into the negatives. As the deadly winter storm swept through both the nations, several flights were cancelled, knocking out power for over 1.5 million households.
Against this backdrop, an image showing snow-covered cars is widely shared on social media linking to America’s recent snow blizzard.
The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “امریکا میں کئی دہائیوں بعد موسم سرما کا بدترین طوفان، 2800 پروازیں منسوخ” (English translation: Worst winter storm in decades in America, 2,800 flights cancelled #america #snowfall #news #international)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the picture in question, we traced a news report published by The Guardian, dated February 2, 2011, carrying the same image. The article headline reads: “Winter storms hit the US – in pictures”, with a caption: “A car lands vertically into a snowbank on Interstate 93 during a snowstorm north of Salem, New Hampshire”.
The same image had been carried in a news report published by NDTV on February 3, 2011. The article describes: “The blizzard that dropped a foot or more of snow across a staggeringly wide area of the country, from Oklahoma up through a paralyzed Chicago and across parts of an ice-glazed New England.”
The same image was also published in several other media outlets in 2011 mentioning America’s snowstorm.
Thus, we can conclusively say that over a decade-old picture is falsely linked to the recent snow blizzard in the US.
