New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal on Wednesday reached Jantar Mantar to meet the protesting wrestlers amid sexual harassment allegations against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
DCW chief Swati Maliwal “We’ve sent notices to Delhi Police & Union sports ministry.” and urged for immediate justice in the case.
“WFI President should be arrested & stern action should be taken against the coaches whose names have come up in the matter,” she said.
Earlier, Olympic medalist Vinesh Phogat claimed that at least 10-12 women wrestlers have complained of “sexual exploitation” at the hands of the WFI president and that she was “mentally tortured” and was called “khota sikka” by WFI President post-Tokyo Olympics.
Olympic wrestler Bajrang Punia alleged that “Wrestlers are being harassed by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).” He further claimed that “Those who are a part of WFI know nothing about the sport.”
The wrestler took to Twitter and added that “The job of the federation is to support the players, take care of their sporting needs. If there is a problem, it has to be solved. But what if the federation itself creates the problem?”
