US Embassy In India’s ‘Super Saturday’ To Reduce Visa Backlog

New Delhi: With an aim to cut the delay in visa proceeding for first-time visa applicants, the United States announced a new visa initiative called ‘Super Saturdays’ for Indians which includes special interviews with the increased strength of consular staff across the country.

According to reports, Super Saturday interviews are a first-of-its-kind initiative launched by the US Embassy and its consulates on January 21, with an aim to reduce the wait time for visa interviews.

The reports further added that the initiative will continue throughout the months of February and March in a bid to cut the visa backlog.

The Embassy in a statement added that “The United States Embassy in New Delhi and Consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad all opened consular operations on Saturday to accommodate applicants who require in-person visa interviews.”

The statement further added that “In the coming months, the Mission will continue to open additional slots for appointments to take place on select Saturdays,”.

The embassy said that the US government has implemented remote processing of interview waiver cases for applicants with previous U.S. visas.

The statement further added that “The U.S. Mission in India released more than 250,000 additional B1/B2 appointments. Consulate General Mumbai also extended its weekday operating hours to make space for additional appointments.”
