Fact Check: Video Of Arvind Kejriwal’s 2019 Kolkata Rally Goes Viral With False Claims

Date:

A video of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying that the return of the duo (Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah) will destroy Pakistan is doing the rounds on social media. Many users have mocked Kejriwal online for his speech.

A Facebook user posted the viral video with a caption:

(English Translation: *What Delhi KD said will happen as said. That is what we want right*

*If Modi_Amit Shah come to power again, Pakistan will not be there ——– Crazywal. *

*When Pakistan, which has 20 crore people, is attacking India, which has 120 crore people* *do you want us to keep watching.. Rss meeeeeeee. . . . . . A*)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video, and found it to be false.

Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we found a YouTube video on the official channel of ETV Andhra Pradesh, dated January 19, 2019, with a title: ‘2019 elections are to dethrone Modi, says Kejriwal’. Many other opposition party leaders like Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Farooq Abdullah, etc., can be seen on the stage along with Kejriwal.

The keyframes starting at 5:41 match with the viral video, but we can’t hear Kejriwal mentioning Pakistan anywhere in his speech, indicating that the viral video is dubbed. The part where he says “….Agar Modi aur Shah 2019 me aagaye toh Pakistan nahin bachega” in the viral video was overlapped on him saying, “….Agar Modi aur Shah 2019 me aagaye toh yeh desh nahin bachega”

Going through the description of another video about the same rally on the India Today channel, we got to know that the video was from the ‘opposition mega meet’ organised in Kolkata by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

India TV’s YouTube channel had also uploaded a similar video from the rally as well. Here too, we could not find any mention of Pakistan in Kejriwal’s speech, proving that the viral video has been edited to spread misinformation.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post’s claim over Kejriwal’s speech is doctored.
